Balenciaga's Croc-Like HD Sneaker
Balenciaga is a loud and proud crocs fan, as evidenced by its many collaborations with the clog giant. Still, the french maison seems to have snubbed the king of casual shoes with its latest sneaker, the hd.
Initially unveiled at balenciaga's fw22 runway show, the hd isn't officially co-signed by crocs — but it looks pretty darn similar to the company's hole-y footwear.
Essentially a rubber sneaker with cut-out paneling, the hd is pretty much half croc, half merrell hydro moc. Despite its likeness to both brands' waterproof shoes, balenciaga's latest does bear some trace of demna.
Its sole is similar to that of balenciaga's mold closed slip-on, another rubber creation. And just like the iconic triple s, the toe of the hd bears the shoe's size.
The clash of colors continues onto the sole unit — which is zig-zagged and toothed for extra support — and comes in green on the red colorway or in blue on the blue pair. “Casa Sport” branding on the lateral mid-panel window, a diamond-shaped rubber tab on the heel, and a woven “Atlantis” tongue tag all make an appearance across both colorways, as do gold-toned lace aglets and comprehensively-branded insoles.
Combined, it’s a solid effort from Casablanca — but it was going to be, considering its background in sneaker collaborations. Here, Casablanca has refined all of its learning and put it into one stellar shoe, a pair that’s destined to be comfy all day long thanks to its thick, rippled EVA foam sole unit that draws influence from the movement of water.
